BDSM is all the rage right now, no pun intended.  It stands for bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism . As weird as it sounds, it is a type of sexual experience made more prevalent by the movie Fifty Shades of Grey and it's sequel Fifty Shades Darker, and more and more people are wanting to try it. Why, you ask? Good question! I have been researching to find that very same thing. (Check out my post on Why I don't cite statistics .) There are certainly myriad factors that go into why a person might be seeking out this kind of experience, but I'm going to just talk about the biggest two. 1. In case anyone is wondering where my statistics to back up my claims are, let me first say that I am writing this as an opinion blog. But the real reason for that is that the political and sociological climate right now is one of what you feel , what you believe , and not necessarily one that is searching for truth. I could cite the dozens of relevant, double-blind studies I have read that formed many of my opinions, but someone who doesn't want to understand what I'm saying because they find inner satisfaction from their opposing point of view will find a way to undermine the statistic- not to mention that there are many studies that aren't definitive, so many people are skeptical of them anyway (myself included!). So instead, I'm trying to reach people through the feelings  that people are so wont to heed nowadays, by speaking to your gut feelings  with no more than reason. When my husband and I first met, he had never dated a woman who wouldn't expect him to do half of the cooking, cleaning, laundry, childcare, and be a breadwinner if they were married. He was 25 then, and these expectations were all he'd ever known from women.  Needless to say, he was very surprised when I said I'd rather he focused on making money and I'd take care of the house. He thought women like me were extinct. This is really common from the modern, feminist woman- normative at the very least. But the economics of it don't make sense- so I wonder how these ideas have lasted this long. Equal labor ignores the basic economic principle of specialization and division of labor, which is that when a person specializes in a certain task, the overall production of that product will be more efficient.  This is the principle behind the assembly line, and why the standard of living became higher when each family ceased to have to make or produce everything it neede...

I love gender equality as much as the next person. I love birth control and the freedom that gave me to postpone children until after college; after I had traveled, performed, enjoyed adulthood and done ME. I love that it gives me a break in between children, and allows my husband and I time to reconnect and feel like adults, not just parents all the time. I love that women can vote, and are legally allowed to do any job they are capable of. This is vital. But I'm hung up on the idea of traditional Feminism- that women should be able to do all the things that men do, and treated the way men are, because it's a huge                  Hypocrisy! The Boys The Boys and the Pond There were two Boys who were neighbors. They were both five years old, and each had a love of Boyish things like adventures, animals, and quests for greatness. One was taller, older, and ready to prove his mettle. The other was slightly smaller, with large round eyes and a love of learning. These two Boys were the best of friends, and were more like brothers than the cousins they were.
